Step 1: Set Up the Destination Server in Parallel

Never touch DNS until the new server is completely provisioned and tested. Upload files (HTML/CSS/JS, PHP, WordPress), import MySQL databases, and verify functionality using your local hosts file to browse the site on the new IP before anyone else.

Step 2: Lower DNS TTL (24-48 Hours in Advance)

The TTL (Time To Live) tells Internet Service Providers (ISPs) how long to cache your site's IP address. Standard values are 86,400 seconds (24 hours).

Pro Tip: Lower your A and MX record TTL to 300 seconds (5 minutes) 24 to 48 hours before migration. When you switch IPs, the change propagates worldwide almost instantaneously.

Step 3: Provision and Sync Email Mailboxes

Recreate the exact same email accounts on the new server with their corresponding passwords, and configure 2048-bit DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records before traffic cutover.

Step 4: Update DNS Records

Point the A record to the new IP and the MX records to the new mail server. Thanks to the low TTL, traffic smoothly transitions to the new server with zero interrupted sessions.

Step 5: SSL Certificate Issuance & Final Verification

Pre-provisioning or immediate Let's Encrypt automated SSL certificate (HTTPS) issuance ensures no visitor ever encounters a security warning during transition.
